Undefeated UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk has looked unstoppable since winning a razor close split-decision over Cláudia Gadelha in her UFC debut. Joanna went on to win the title with a TKO victory over Carla Esparza and has since defended the title three times, all in dominant fashion. The Polish Muay Thai practitioner appears to be on her way to making history as other dominant champions have before her. The aggressive technical striking attack and remarkable takedown defense makes Joanna Jędrzejczyk a daunting task for any fighter in the division, but fellow undefeated Polish strawweight Karolina Kowalkiewicz has been waiting for this opportunity since the beginning of her professional mixed martial arts career.
Undefeated striking specialist Karolina Kowalkiewicz is a former KSW Women’s Flyweight Champion and currently host to an unscathed 10-0 record, but the 31-year-old challenger doesn’t pretend she’s undefeated, and wants nothing more than to avenge her amateur loss to Joanna Jędrzejczyk from March 4, 2012. Karolina has studied the self-defense art of Krav Maga since the age of 16 and later took to Muay Thai as she looked to make fighting her career. Although the “Polish Princess” doesn’t have the striking credentials of the champion her similar striking game and takedown defense has made her a top contender in the UFC and once again puts her across cage from Joanna Jędrzejczyk.
While both women have a mutual respect for each other, the rivalry between the two couldn’t be more real. Joanna Jędrzejczyk claims her opponent is a “fake person” and isn’t on her skill level while Karolina Kowalkiewicz says the champion is “scared of her” and she’s ready to go to battle at UFC 205.
Two Polish fighters take on each other for a UFC title for the first time in the sports history. When they first fought it was at an amateur event four years ago and their outstanding skills have placed them across the cage from each other once again, but this time with the UFC title on the line.
Joanna Jędrzejczyk will be fighting to continue her legacy as a dominant undefeated champion as she looks to defend her title for the fourth time. Karolina Kowalkiewicz will be looking to continue her undefeated streak and retrieve her first UFC title while extracting some revenge in the process. It is one of the most intriguing contest taking place on what is arguably the best card in UFC history adding to the great deal of motivation both women already have to go home with a victory. It may not be the most talked about fight as we get closer to the UFC’s Madison Square Garden debut, but it easily has the potential to be the most talked about fight after the event as Joanna continues to write strawweight history and Karolina looks to stop her in her tracks.
