We have just learned it has been confirmed that current 145 pound title holder Germaine De Randamie has been stripped of her title. She has been stripped due to refusing to defend her belt against the number one contender Cristine “Cyborg” Justino, as first reported by ESPN.co.uk.
The UFC had this to say regarding Germaine being stripped. “UFC has informed Germaine de Randamie and her management team that she is being removed as the women’s featherweight champion due to her unwillingness to fight the No. 1 ranked contender, Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino. UFC maintains that any champion is expected to accept fights against the top contenders in their respective weight classes in order to maintain the integrity of the sport.”
Instead, the UFC has put together a title fight between “Cyborg” and current Featherweight Invicta champion, Megan Anderson. Megan is currently 8-2 in here short career whilst “Cyborg” is 17-1 and generally regarded the top fighter in WMMA.
This is the fight many expected to see when the UFC had the inaugural title fight back in February this year. In the end, it was Germaine De Randamie vs Holly Holm in an extremely unexciting affair for the belt, in which De Randamie faced much criticism for her performance, as she struck her opponent twice after the bell had sounded, in two different rounds.
