When you work in the MMA media it can be a bitter sweet experience, as you may see fighters dominate a bout only to lose due to a simple mistake or you can watch a fighter accept that their skillset is not adequate at the level they hope it to be. But therein lies the beauty of mixed martial arts, the fighter may be despondent in a losing moment, but they will be resurgent as early as a day later! This mentality is an example to all.

There has been an atmosphere of tranquillity across Irish MMA this past week, it must be correlated to the fact that much of this island has been baked in sunshine this week (including a good sun burn during a tag-rugby tournament for yours truly!). Such quiet weeks leave some room for mischief making. This week was no exception, especially when April Fool’s Day fell at the start of this week. I watched UFC London in a local pub with a group of friends that are not MMA fans and it was a pleasure to watch an event at a fitting time for an Irish audience, rather than the wee hours of the night. We had gathered to watch Ireland versus England in the Six Nations rugby competition and this writer was pleasantly surprised when a request to turn to the relevant TV channel was approved. Throughout the card we were visited by people with a variety of interests in MMA and in a variety of states of drunkenness.
